Archant

Supermarket staff in Ilford traded in their uniforms for hiking boots and a harness, all in the name of charity.

A total of 15 shop workers from Marks & Spencer in High Road scaled the O2 arena in Greenwich on Tuesday and managed to raise £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support through sponsorship from customers, family and friends.

Hospitalities manager at the store, Tanya Stephenson, 47, said: “we are very proud of the money raised but we are not going to stop there.

“Last year the Ilford branch alone raised £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support but we’re aiming even higher this year.”

Staff at the store are also playing a raffle with the chance to swap roles with their store manager for the day, and a choir will be performing in the branch throughout the week collecting funds.
