Good causes across Redbridge received more than £1.4million from the National Lottery last year.

The 31 grants provided a vital cash boost to arts, sport and heritage projects as well as community groups in the Ilford North and South constituency areas.

One project that benefited was the planned Vicarage Lane Play Park in Seven Kings.

The £50,000 funding moved it a step closer to reality after years of campaigning by residents.

Redbridge Concern for Mental Health, which supports people living with mental health issues in the borough, got £231,000 towards its work.

Public health group Community Healthcare Innovations also got £10,000 towards developing a website and improving communications to help the community. Any of the organisations that received funding can now receive recognition in the National Lottery Awards 2013.

John Barrowman, presenter of last year’s awards, said: “National Lottery players in Ilford should be proud of the difference they are making to people in the area. “The National Lottery Awards recognise the unsung heroes, dedicated workers and selfless volunteers making great use of Lottery funding.”
