An Ilford runner is hoping to complete his 34th consecutive London marathon, and his third as a pacemaker - but this year he will be the oldest one on the course.

Harmander Singh, 58, from Sikhs in the City will be setting the pace for other runners around the 26.2 mile course and will be hoping to finish bang on the five hour mark.

The Ilford runner was the first male in Redbridge to complete 100 marathons and this will be his 131st in total.

He said: “Training hasn’t gone exactly as I planned because of the weather but I’m hoping I’l be able to get over the line on time.”

Vanessa Brewster - another member of Sikhs in the City - will also be hoping to complete her 286th marathon while the pair of veterans will be joined by Jag Bassi from the club who will be taking part in his first marathon.
