Serious flooding damage in Mayespark Primary School to take weeks to repair, children to be relocated

Children at a Goodmayes primary seriously damaged by flooding will be taught in other schools from next week.

Severe water damage means children at Mayespark Primary School, Goodmayes Lane, will be staying at home for all of this week.

A burst water pipe at the school caused the damage, which is likely to take more than six weeks to repair.

The resulting need to move children to other schools from next week has been described as a “very unusual situation that is evolving every day” by Redbridge Council.

Children in reception class, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 will be taught at Loxford School of Science and Technology, Loxford Lane, Ilford, from Monday.

Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will be taught at Isaac Newton Academy, Cricklefield Place, High Road, Ilford.

On its website, Redbridge Council said: “The council’s priority in this situation is to ensure the continuing education of the children who attend Mayespark, and therefore is planning to re-provide lessons at two other schools in the borough.

“The council is working to arrange transport to and from Mayespark Primary School to either the Loxford School of Science and Technology or the Isaac Newton Academy in the morning and evenings.

“This will help maintain normal routines for both pupils and parents. The details of the transport arrangements are being worked on and these will be published here on Redbridge i.

“Parents will also be contacted about the revised arrangements once they have been agreed.

“Work will begin repairing Mayespark as soon as possible but it is likely that the repairs will take in excess of six weeks. Details of the progress of the works will be published here on Redbridge i.
