Police officers tasked with keeping the streets of the borough safe will be deployed to other parts of London during the Olympics, it has been revealed.
Clayhall Safer Neighbourhood Team acting Sgt Jake Sutton told councillors and residents at last week’s area committee four meeting that things would be “difficult” during the Olympics in light of the already “limited resources”.
But he said many police would be based in the borough and travel through it to get to venues including the Olympic Park, adding: “Hopefully that will prevent some of the crime.”
Mr Sutton was asked about burglary rates across area four in light of an increase in offences over the last 12 months.
He said there had been a 48 per cent reduction in February and March in Clayhall ward, while Barkingside ward had an increase in burglaries in April and Aldborough ward was unchanged from the previous month.
