Two hospital consultants went to Las Vegas to talk at a Microsoft conference about a system developed at King George and Queen’s hospitals.
Aklak Choudhury and John White travelled to America to speak to more than 1,000 delegates about the eHandover system, which was developed at Redbridge, Havering and Barking University Hospitals NHS Trust to manage patient care out of normal working hours.
The system ensures the handover of patients’ care between shifts runs smoothly, and that no critical information is lost.
Previously, transfer of care in hospitals often relied on a briefing or hand-written notes.
Gideon Bibliowicz, senior director at Microsoft, said: “The presentation was not only a great story of process innovation and the smart adoption of technology, but also the business impact is even more acute as it related to patient health and safety.”
eHandover has already been sold to other NHS trusts in the UK and was the winner of a national award last year.
