A public consultation is underway into the future of Hainault Forest Country Park as the council decides how to spend £235,000 from the controversial “Snoozebox” built to house security staff in the Olympics.
The park was left resembling a “disaster area” after the temporary hotel housed 4,000 people, according to residents.
Diggers were sent in to rip up the structure last spring and grass seeds were sown to return it to its former glory.
But Redbridge Council now has grander plans for the park, which already has a fishing lake, zoo, adventure play areas, orienteering course and a nature trail over its 300 acres.
Cllr Joyce Ryan (Cons, Fairlop) said the Greater London Authority may be giving Redbridge Council money towards the scheme.
Speaking at last week’s area committee three meeting, she added: “The park is lovely but there are a lot of tired uildings down there and there’s a lot more that could be done.”
Questionaires are being sent out to residents to see what facilities they would like and public consultation meetings are being held.
The first meeting is at Redbridge Town Hall in High Road, Ilford, on February 11.
