The sand used in this summer’s Olympic beach volleyball matches will be coming to Ilford after the Games are over.

About 760 tonnes of sand will be brought to Loxford Park next month from Horseguards Parade where the volleyball matches are being staged.

The bowls club, in the park off Loxford Lane, will be replaced with the beach volleyball courts.

The bowls area has been unused for the past four years and it is hoped the new facilities will be open by the end of August. There will be a formal launch in September with Olympic organisers, Sport England and Beach Volleyball.
