Ilford North Labour MP Wes Streeting has denied claims from Redbridge Council’s leader of the Conservative Party he was planning to step down from his role as councillor.
Cllr Paul Canal tweeted today Mr Streeting was going to resign from his seat as Aldborough councillor.
He suggested Mr Streeting was planning to leave “at the last possible moment” to allow a by-election on May 5 - at the same time as the London Mayor election.
But Mr Streeting immediately denied the allegation on social media.
He told the Recorder: “There is no truth in this remark. Indeed, the only person who seems to be putting this out is Cllr Paul Canal, making this to be as reliable as most of the other stuff that comes from his mouth.”
