A celebration of appreciation for the Armed Forces was held on Sunday, as veterans joined dignitaries and cadets to march through Ilford Town Centre.

The march was part of a national day of events allowing the public to show their support for serving troops, service families, veterans, cadets and reservists.

Men and women of the Armed Forces both past and present began the day outside Redbridge Town Hall where a service was held and the Armed Forces Day flag raised.

Cllr Gurdial Bhamra, Mayor of Redbridge, said: “Armed Forces Day is a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate and show our respect for those who work so hard to protect our country.”

The theme of this year’s event was #SaluteOurForces where people were encouraged to use the hashtag and post a picture of themselves saluting on twitter.
