The London Living Wage could be on the cards in the “foreseeable future” for council employees in Redbridge if a consultation process proves successful.

Cabinet members agreed on Tuesday to look into the possibility of implementing the minimum rate and the chief human resources officer will discuss how this might be achieved with trade unions, head teachers and group leaders if required.

Other authorities including the Greater London Authority (GLA) and London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Islington have already joined the scheme, which uses London income averages, basic living costs and a protective buffer to calculate the living wage.
