Children have to “hop, skip and jump” across a road to get to school putting their lives in danger, according to one councillor.
Speaking at the area six committee meeting in Redbridge Central Library, Clements Road, Ilford, on Wednesday, Cllr Filly Maravala said a new pedestrian crossing should be put outside Woodlands Junior and Infant schools, both in Loxford Lane, Ilford.
At the moment the proposal is to put the crossing outside Loxford Youth Centre, which is in the same road.
Cllr Maravala said: “There’s an island in the middle of the road and young children are having to hop, skip and jump into the middle of the road, it’s totally unacceptable.”
The plans have yet to be put out to consultation and any changes would have to be approved by Transport for London.
