The widening of a footpath in Ilford Town Centre will make a “vast difference” according to one area committee seven councillor.
The footway on the bridge in Hainault Street, Ilford, will be extended, at a cost of 86,000, and lighting will also be updated, to improve safety for pedestrians.
Cllr Ross Hatfull said: “I use Hainault Street on a daily basis and it does not feel or look safe so I am pleased that something is being done. It will make a vast difference and hopefully it will encourage more people to walk into Ilford.”
Cllr Shoaib Patel added: “I absolutely welcome this news, especially as a resident in Valentines ward, plus it is not costing us a penny.”
The money will be spent by the council’s cabinet, who agreed to the funding at their meeting in June.
