A demonstration is taking place outside Redbridge Town Hall on Saturday over the borough’s crippling housing shortage.
John Clifton, of the Salvation Army, said Redbridge Citizens was holding the event calling on Redbridge Council to agree to support its hopes to create a community land trust (CLT) in the borough.
Mr Clifton said: “The community takes a plot of land into ownership and then develops the housing on it, but we need the council’s commitment and cabinet member for housing Muhammed Javed’s in particular.”
The demonstration, which runs between 2.15pm and 2.45pm, will follow comments in tomorrow’s Ilford Recorder about homelessness being the “human cost” of the borough’s housing crisis.
See tomorrow’s Recorder for more on how the shortage of accommodation is affecting homelessness.
