Listeners from Australia, France and all over the country tuned in to a charity radio marathon on Saturday.

Goodmayes Hospital radio station The Jumbo Sound hopes to raise up to £10,000 for a multiple sclerosis charity with the 12 hour broadcast.

All proceeds will go towards the Marjorie Collins Centre in Chadwell Heath, which provides therapies, advice and events for sufferers and carers.

Kas Aston, who has lived with MS for 18 years, joined the marathon to raise awareness of the disease and Cllr Tania Solomon, the deputy mayor of Redbridge, was interviewed on air.

A special programme on multiple sclerosis was aired with interviews with consultants and neurologists to explain the causes of the disease and how it can be treated.

Members of six Rotary Clubs also took part, including Redbridge, Barkingside and former Rotary Club of London governor Eve Conway-Ghazi.

Radio presenter Philip Lester hailed the event “a great success”.

He added: “It was very hard hours – we were in the studio at 8.30am and were there until 11pm.

“But it was great fun and it was good to raise money for such a good cause.”
