Leyton and Wanstead MP John Cryer is taking the plunge to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

He will be swimming in two races on Thursday for Pool Aid 2014 at the London Aquatics Centre, which was built for the 2012 Olympics.

Mr Cryer said he was inspired by witnessing the “tremendous work” the charity does in his constituency.

He added: “Sadly many of us will develop dementia as we get older.

“Most of us know someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia, be they a neighbour, friend or relative.

“I have decided to support the incredible work that the Alzheimer’s Society does to help people and their loved ones cope.”

Mr Cryer will be captaining a team for two relay races.

He has raised £814 so far. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/john-cryer-mp or text POOL76 and the amount to 70070.
