TODAY’S vigil to mark the 100th birthday of Ilford Holocaust survivor Leon Greenman has been cancelled due to the icy conditions.
The vigil was planned to honour the only Englishman to be held in Auschwitz, who died in 1998 aged 97, but heavy snow and icy conditions in Valentines Park, Ilford, has made the event too dangerous to be held.
Recorder editor Chris Carter said: “We are all very disappointed, but people’s safety is paramount.”
