Archant

Volunteers took to the streets of Ilford on Tuesday morning to help clean up their neighbourhood.

As part of the Love Where You Live Campaign, residents came out in droves to help tidy the town centre.

The selfless participants collected a staggering 53kg of rubbish from Redbridge’s streets in just under an hour and a half.

More than 28kg of that material was recyclable.

The event also served to bring together people from all different walks of life.

Children from Life Ministries, based in Francis Avenue, and from the Karamasar Gudwara on Ilford High Road formed one group.

And Transport for London, Vine Church, Amey and Redbridge Council itself were just some of the organisations to send representatives.

Habiba Ahmed, recycling officer at Amey, said: “It was a really, good day.

“We had a great turn out and it is really positive that so many people came out to help in response to our leaflets.”
