Don't feed the Candian geese in Valentines Park, Ilford

Well-meaning residents could be harming geese by feeding them human food, park volunteers have warned.

In Valentines Park, Cranbrook Road, Ilford, Barry Watts photographed the food left for the Canadian geese.

Mr Watts, 64, from Woodford Green, said he was concerned by the bad smell around the lake.

He said: “I was in the park with my mother last week and it’s normally very peaceful and quiet.

“But the lake nearest the mansion really stinks at the moment and it’s obvious why.

“There are about 150 birds there at the moment, so you can imagine the output.”

Julie Bradley, a Valentines Park volunteer said that the geese are moulting, rendering them flightless.

She encouraged residents to scatter approriate bird feed rather than food waste.
