Ilford train station has now reopened after a fire scare this morning.

Firefighters were called to the station, in Cranbrook Road, shortly before 7am after the smell of smoke was reported.

The station was closed while checks were carried out and Greater Anglia trains towards Liverpool Street and Shenfield did not stop for almost an hour.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: “Ilford station was temporarily shut as a precaution due to a report of the smell of smoke in the ticket hall.

“No fire was found and the station reopened at 7.50am.”

Trains are now running as normal.
