Ilford train station evacuated after ‘security alert’

Ilford train station had to be evacuated following a “security alert” this afternoon (Friday).

Met Police and British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the station in Cranbrook Road at around 4.30pm.

After carrying out a search, the station was reopened just before 5pm.

A BTP spokesman said: “Ilford station has now re-opened following a security alert.

“The station was closed for a short time while our officers and colleagues from Metropolitan Police Service carried out a search.

“Nothing suspicious was found. The station was re-opened at 4.55pm.”

Greater Anglia confirmed trains are now stopping at the station as normal.
