A student from Ilford took the crown last weekend when she served her award-winning main course to 300 guests at the annual British Turkey Awards ceremony in a Mayfair hotel.

Sanah Masood, 24, from Windsor Road, Ilford, won “Best Main” for her dish of ballotine of turkey breast and thigh, sage and onion farce, garden vegetables, cumberland gel, crispy skin and turkey jus.

She was asked to serve her dish to 300 guests at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in Mayfair, after wining the “Best of British” cook-off against seven fellow students on her professional cookery course.

She said: “There was a lot of pressure, but I just got on with it and was able to enjoy the experience.”

The student at University College Birmingham has now joined the university’s Culinary Arts Management degree

Mentor and chef lecturer Glyn Jacklin said: “Sanah thrives in pressurised situations so cooking for 300 did not faze her.

“She is developing into a high quality chef and is definitely one to look out for in the future.”
