The Ilford South MP will be returning to parliament, despite spending more than two months in hospital.

Mike Gapes was rushed to A&E on November 28 with “chest pains”, and forced to undergo emergency surgery.

He has now be discharged and is recovering at home.

A spokesman for the MP said: “Mike has been ordered to take a few weeks off to rebuild his strength and will be returning to Parliament once he has fully recovered.”

The 63-year-old has been MP for Ilford South since 1992, and received 64 per cent of the vote in last year’s general election.
