A good samaritan who rushed to the aid of a teenager who had been shot in the heart has recounted the victim’s final moments.

Mohammed, 26, was waiting for his father in a car on Bedford Road, Ilford, when two men began shouting that their friend had been shot.

Abdifatah Sheikhey, known as Abdi, was shot with a handgun around 9.50pm on March 21, as he sat in the passenger seat of a black Mercedes saloon in Woodlands Road, about 250 metres away.

Police believe the vehicle was then driven a short distance to Bedford Road – where Mohammed found him.

Mohammed said he didn’t initially believe Abdi, 19, was alive when he approached the car.

He told the Recorder: “He looked lifeless, he was slumped over in the car and I could see foam coming out of his mouth.

“He was in the passenger seat and the window had been smashed, there was glass everywhere.”

“I dragged him out the car, he wasn’t responding at all, it was scary, it was the first time that I’ve ever dealt with a dead body on my own.”

Mohammed, who volunteers as a special constable, said his training meant he didn’t think twice about going over.

When he removed Abdi from the car in order to start CPR, he says he saw a sheathed machete, about a foot long, lying on the floor.

He said: “This was the first time that I’ve ever done it on a real person.

“I’ve practiced on human sized dummy’s but I’ve never done it for real.

“When the police arrived, they found a pulse and told me that he was alive.

“When I learnt the next day that he had died, I couldn’t believe it.

“When his friends started shouting for help, I just knew I had to do something.

“This isn’t something I will ever forget.”

Police are still appealing for information about the shooting.
