Archant

An Ilford resident reached the grand old age of 100 years last Friday.

Amelia Kay, who lives at Rosewood Lodge care home in Valentines Road, Ilford, enjoyed a party thrown in her honour.

Amelia was born and brought up in the east end of London and was a court dressmaker in her youth.

She had wanted to go into modelling but wasn’t allowed by her mother as it was less socially acceptable at the time.

It was smiles all round on Friday as she celebrated with family members and staff at the care home and received her card from the Queen.
