Pupils got to put down their pens for a whole day at an Ilford school last week.
Children at Uphall Primary School, in Uphall Road, joined No Pens Day Wednesday to use only speaking and listening to learn.
The day was part of a national event organised by The Communication Trust.
Assistant headteacher Patricia Herrera Cronin said: “We believe that speech, language and communication skills underpin everything and directly affect life chances.”
Pupils and teachers used debates, games and story-telling on the day.
