Ilford mum puts to bed myths about single parents

A 32-year-old woman described her debut book on lone parenting as “inspiring” following a book signing.
Three top tips for being a single parent
• Be prepared to ask for help.
• Get a life coach.
• Do whatever you are passionate about.
Sabrina Ben Salmi, of Eton Road, Ilford, said she wrote the book in three months driven by “passion and being fired up”.
The mother-of-four spent years as a single parent and wanted to change people’s view of those bringing up their children alone.
Mrs Salmi said: “I was annoyed about the negative perception around single parents that we are lazy and all on benefits.
“I was determined to give single parents support to achieve their dreams.”
A major change in Mrs Salmi’s life came after she took a neuro-linguistic programme course which she said radically changed the way she thought.
She said: “The course totally changed my life, my values and beliefs, it changed everything.”
She wrote the book to give people a clearer idea of what being a single parent is about and what challenges they may face.
“You have many worries such as housing, and finance which you need to address,” she said.
“You need to make a plan of how to get to where you want to be.”
Along with the book she offers life coaching lessons to advise people on how to make positive changes in their lives.
She said: “Having a life coach takes you out of your comfort zone and gives you direction to achieve what you want.”
Mrs Salmi, who was signing books at Waterstone’s bookshop, High Road, Ilford on Saturday, believes that the only obstacles to getting to where you want to be in life stem from your perception of the world.
She said: “Your values and beliefs shape your world and your ideas will hold you back. There’s no such thing as failure, only feedback.
“We create the negativity and problems are from the mind and therefore so are the solutions.
“You need to look at things from a different angle.”
Her book, Lone Parenthood: Essential Tips of How to Create the Life you Deserve, is available for £9.99.
