Ilford South MP Mike Gapes has praised the new strategy for Scouts after meeting with a group of budding Baden Powells at Westminster.

Mr Gapes said that he believed Scouting provides skills for life, and thinks that the new focuses of the movement will give youngsters a lot of new experiences.

Scouts are planning a number of changes across the movement that include plans to review their uniform, inviting children of a younger age to take part and are hoping to grow in 500 areas of deprivation and under-representation across the country.

The new strategy was launched last month and Scouts from Ilford had the opportunity to travel to London and meet with their local MP’s to speak about the changes.

Speaking after chatting with Scouts Mr Gapes said: “I myself was involved with and enjoyed my time in Scouts. Young people today will have very different and new experiences from me! I still believe that Scouting provides skills for life.”
