Rajdeo Aubeelock, of Hampton Road, Ilford, was part of a “violent quartet” sentenced yesterday at Southwark Crown Court for conspiracy to rob after leaving a 69-year-old man with “mental scars”.

Aubeelock’s accomplice Ioana Ruxandra Costache, first posed as a courier pretending to deliver a parcel to the victim at his Upton Park home. As she distracted him, her husband, Mohammed Auckburally, 43, approached the door and forced his way into the property using a Stanley knife to assault the victim.

Once inside, Auckburally struck the victim over his head and used tape to bind his hands, legs and mouth. His brother Abdool Auckburally, 26, helped him bind the victim, putting a towel over the victim’s head and pushing him to the floor.

Aubeelock then searched the home before the gang made off with thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and cash.

The pensioner managed to free himself and raise the alarm, and detectives were able to identify the gang from the CCTV footage at the victim’s address and arrest them following the incident at 11.30am on February 29 last year.

Detective Constable Chloe Wilson, of Newham CID, said: “Whilst the victim suffered relatively minor physical injuries as a result of the incident, it is the mental scars that still remain.

“Much of the money and jewellery stolen has still not been recovered, but I hope the victim will take some comfort in knowing this violent quartet have been caught and brought to justice.”

Mohammed Auckburally, of Ripple Road, Barking, was handed an eight-year jail term at Southwark Crown Court after pleading guilty to conspiracy to rob in January. His brother, Abdool Auckburally, Drake Avenue, Great Yarmouth, was sentenced to nine years behind bars.

Costache, also of Ripple Road, Barking, was found guilty of conspiracy to rob but failed to appear at court yesterday. She will return to the same court for sentencing on June 30.
