Ilford man denies trying to kill outreach worker

A 43-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder an outreach worker as she patrolled the streets.

Robin Kardam, of Madras Road, Ilford, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court this morning.

He is accused of stabbing Sophia Burley, a member of Redbridge Street Pastors, in the back and the neck in Ilford Lane.

He appeared in the dock with three support workers and is currently been held in a secure mental health hospital.

Kardam will stand trial on May 18.
