Traffic is being diverted from Ilford Lane after a pedestrian was hit by a car.

Police were called at 2pm today after a pedestrian was hit by a car on the pavement in Fanshawe Avenue, Barking.

The driver drove off directly after the incident and a police spokesman said they were treating the incident as attempted murder.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital but they are not believed to be suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Ilford Lane is closed and Fanshawe Avenue is blocked with slow traffic in both directions at the A124 Northern relief Road junction.
