An Ilford Islamic centre is once again opening its doors to rough sleepers and refugees – offering hot meals from now until the end of December.

Each year the Eton Community Centre, Eton Road, serves food to those less fortunate, and will start cooking up a storm for Ilford’s homeless population from Monday.

Bashir Chaudhry, chairman of the League of British Muslims, which runs the centre, told the Recorder he was excited “to be putting food on the table”.

“There are still a lot of people that cannot afford to get food, and cannot provide it for their families,” he said.

“We want to help people struggling in the area, and give them a hot meal.”

Mr Chaudhry added that you don’t need to provide identification, anyone in need is welcome from 12.30pm onwards.

Any businesses or people are welcome to donate food for the centre to cook call the League of British Muslims on 0208 514 0706.
