From primula to potatoes, Ilford Horticultural Society were in full bloom at their Autum Show.

More than 400 people attended the exhibition at Valentines Mansion, Emerson Road Ilford, which displayed vegetable, foliage and photographic arrangements.

Margaret Quinney, Ilford Horticultural Society President said: “People brought in plants, vegetable, knitting and cakes to be judged in the competition.

“They made a big effort, and I would like to encourage more people to enter next time.”

from sewing to sun flowers, gardening and craft enthusiasts harvested their best work to try and win one the top prize in their category.

Visitors could also purchase plants and bulbs, and ask questions about flora in their own gardens.

Pupils from John Bramston school, Newcastle Avenue, Hainault, contributed to the event and sent in photographs of natural collages.

Margaret added: “The children’s display was really lovely.

“They made a face out of berries that they had found and it was nice to see younger people getting involved.”

The society welcome new members, and meeting are held once a month at Fullwell Cross Library, High Street, Ilford.
