Promising young footballer, Junior Dian, has died after collapsing during a pre-season friendly game.

The 23-year-old, who was a trialist at Tonbridge Angels FC, suddenly collapsed on the field without warning during the second half of an away game against Whyteleafe FC in Surrey.

Despite efforts from club physios and paramedics, he died at St Georges’ Hospital, Tooting, south London, in the early hours of this morning.

Steve Churcher, chairman of Tonbridge Angels FC, paid tribute to Junior, who was from Ilford.

He said: “This is devastating news and our only crumb of comfort is that Junior lost his life doing something he obviously enjoyed so much. All our thoughts and sympathies are with his family.

“Also I would like to thank everyone at Whyteleafe FC for their support and professionalism during this very distressing incident yesterday evening.”

Fellow players and friends have also paid tribute to Junior, who was from Ilford, on social media.
