Fire crews tackled a blaze in a flat above a shop in High Road, Ilford on Friday evening.
A large part of the flat on the second floor was damaged in the fire, but no one was injured.
Three fire engines from Ilford and East Ham fire stations with 15 firefighters were called out at 7.49pm and the fire was under control by 8.55pm.
The cause is under investigation.
