Firefighters from Ilford fire station say the two incidents are not related.

The first incident, in Wallington Road, Ilford, occurred just before midnight.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a road traffic incident, after police noticed smoke coming from the car.

A spokesman from Ilford fire station said that the incident was dealt with quickly.

He said: “The car was on its side after colliding with another car.

“At the scene, we gathered that there had been a problem with the steering as eye-witnesses said the driver had not been going very fast.”

Firefighters attended the second incident, in Highbury Gardens, Seven Kings, at 1.15am.

The spokesman said it was believed to be an abandoned car.

He said: “I spoke to neighbours and they said it had been there for quite a while.

“It had been reported to the council, and such, but nothing had been done with it.”
