Improved run sees the Foxes unbeaten in five games.

Ilford boss Colin Walton believes the strike force of Nathan Gordon and Adam Bolle has been the main difference in recent weeks.

The duo have scored four out of the Foxes last seven Ryman One North goals and both have hit form at the right time, as they look set to avoid relegation, with Cricklefield tenants Waltham Forest, five points adrift at the bottom – although they have a game in hand.

Since pairing Gordon and Bolle together in the 1-1 draw with neighbours Redbridge at the beginning of March, Walton feels it is the strongest striking partnership he has had all season.

“We asked questions of Adam a few weeks ago, as he had played six or seven and not scored,” explained the Ilford manager.

“But since then he has come good and scored two in the last three. A major boost has been Nathan since his arrival and they have combined well together.

“We have been much more of a threat and Tuesday night (against Romford) proved that.”

The 3-3 draw against Romford extended their unbeaten run to five games on the back of a 1-0 win over Cheshunt thanks to Carl Paul’s 88th minute strike.

Despite being disappointed seeing the Cricklefield outfit concede two late goals against Paul Martin’s Romford, he feels the Foxes have hit form at just the right time.

“Going into Tuesday’s game we were targeting three points all along,” said Walton.

“We’ll take the point because we have to, but we had enough chances to be even further in front. There were a couple of occasions when the play was excellent and that killer ball didn’t just fall us.

“With 18 minutes left I still thought we’d get the three points, and even when we conceded the second I though we had done enough.

“We are starting to apply ourselves better and the confidence is high at the moment. Other clubs after the games come up to us and question why we are near the bottom of the league when we have played like we have in recent weeks.

“We are in there because of that fact alone, we haven’t picked up the points some of our performances have deserved.

“The discipline amongst the team has also been a lot better and after a bad spell with bookings at the start of the season, there are a lot less now.

“Although we conceded two sloppy penalties in the match the positive is that we haven’t lost the game.”
