A husband will be in his wife’s good books next week after he entered a competition and won a new car for her birthday.

Throughout the summer shoppers at the Exchange Mall, in High Road, Ilford, have been competing for the top score to claim a place in the final – which Ketan Patel, from Ilford, won on Saturday.

“I cannot believe I have won,” said Ketan. “My daughter spotted the car two weeks ago and said she loved the colour.”

The timing of 37-year-old’s surprise win couldn’t have been any better as it is his wife’s birthday next week.

“The promotional team encouraged me to play the game and enter my score into the leader board.

“I never thought I would win, my wife will be so pleased – its her birthday next week,” said Ketan.

More than 2,000 people played the interactive game, which required contestants to navigate a digital course.

The Exchange general manager, Rubie Charalambous, said: “It has been great to see how much interest and competitive spirit our ‘Game On’ campaign has ignited amongst our shoppers.

“Here at The Exchange, we are thrilled for Ketan and his family. We hope they enjoy their brand new Vauxhall Corsa courtesy of Tony Levoi, Romford.”
