Ilford faith leader presents award to UK's first female Sikh MP

An Ilford faith leader presented an award to UK’s first female Sikh MP Preet Gill.
Balvinder Kaur Saund, chairwoman of the Sikh Women’s Alliance (SWA) UK, presented Ms Gill with a Sikh Woman of Substance award at ceremony on Saturday, October 20,
The Labour MP was elected for the first time in 2017, representing the constituency of Birmingham Edgbaston.
She also chairs the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Sikhs.
Balvinder said: “The Sikh Women’s Alliance UK is proud of their first sikh woman Member of Parliament, who will need all her courage and stamina to undertake all her roles in life.
“The SWA wished her all success and told her that we loved her and applaud her achievements.”
Following the presentation of her award, Ms Gill chaired a round table discussion.
Last year also saw the election of Tanmanjeet Singh Desi, the country’s first turbaned Sikh MP.
