An Eid gathering today heard speaker after speaker hail the model of cohesion in Redbridge and urge people to celebrate people’s commonalities.

The event held at Ilford Islamic Centre in Albert Road, Ilford, also saw cheques presented to charities from events raised by the Muslim community.

VIP speakers included Redbridge Mayor Cllr Gurdial Bhamra, MPs Mike Gapes and Wes Streeting, London Assembly member for Redbridge and Havering Keith Prince and Redbridge Council leader Cllr Jas Athwal.

Cllr Athwal told those gathered it was the duty of politicians to stand up for righteousness. “Politicians need to stand up and show leadership,” he added.
