The Royal Mail Ilford office which was forced to close as a result of the City Gates building collapse will resume deliveries to Redbridge postcodes tomorrow.

A company statement released this afternoon said deliveries for IG1 to IG6 postcodes will resume but “customers are likely to continue to be affected by the recent issues for a few more days as deliveries may be lighter and made at a different time from normal.”

A spokesman said: “We expect to be able to deliver all special delivery and tracked items within our delivery specification.

“We will be endeavouring to deliver to all addresses in the Ilford area today.”

It is also now possible to pick up undelivered mail from before the collapse, which happened on Tuesday afternoon.

The Inquiry office, part of the delivery office in Chadwick Road, Ilford, has now re-opened.

Royal Mail said many cards letting people know they have mail to collect have been left at Ilford addresses by post workers operating out of their Romford office since the collapse.

Customers are asked to carefully check which inquiry office their mail has been left at.

Items will be left for collection for an extended period.
