A refugee charity chief executive has said she is “disgusted” by a project being piloted in Redbridge by the Home Office this week.

A van displaying large adverts encouraging illegal migrants to return to their native countries is being driven around six boroughs. Its slogan says “Go home or face arrest” and it was spotted on Tuesday driving down High Road, in Ilford and Seven Kings.

Rita Chadha from the Refugee and Migrant Forum of East London, High Road, Ilford, said: “I am disgusted. It’s just a stunt.”

The system is too complex for people to go home and doing this is just a stunt. It is difficult to leave the UK depending on which country you are from.”

If you see the van Ms Chadha asks you call RAMFEL on 020 8478 4513.
