Residents taken to hospital and one driver abandons car following serious crash in Ilford

Two cars crashed into a set of traffic lights on a busy road in Ilford early this morning.

Firefighters were called at 1.30am today (Thursday, August 30) to reports of a car crash in Eastern Avenue at the junction of Ley Street.

A firefighter spokesman said: “Two cars came together at what looks like a high speed in Eastern Avenue.

“They took out a set of traffic lights and one of the drivers jumped out and ran away from the scene.

“Two people in the other car were trapped in the vehicle for a short while.”

These residents were later taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

Fire crews from Ilford and East Ham attended the scene.
