An Ilford cancer sufferer has had her head shaved to “give something back” to a charity helping her through the disease.

Rita Pabari, 47, is undergoing chemotherapy as part of her treatment for breast cancer and had already started to lose hair.

She chose to have last week’s shave sponsored to raise money for Sue’s House in Dawlish Drive, Goodmayes, Macmillan Cancer Care and Breast Cancer UK.

Sue’s House offers counselling, alternative therapies and support for cancer sufferers.

Rita said: “It’s really hard losing my hair – it’s something every woman needs. I’ve found it quite difficult.

“When I saw little bits falling out I thought I would do the shave for a good cause.

“Sue’s House has really supported me, I wanted to give something back.”

Rita, who was diagnosed with cancer after finding a lump, is encouraging women to do regular checks for irregularities that could be a symptom of cancer.

“Nine out of 10 times it’s nothing but you’ve got to check - the earlier you find it, the better the chance of beating it.”
