Hundreds of people from Redbridge took part in a yoga workshop on Wednesday to celebrate International Yoga Day.
The event was held inside the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Temple, in Cleveland Road, Ilford, and led by former GP and yoga instructor Dr Sudarshan Kapur, of the Drive, South Woodford, who said 200 people of various ages, faiths and cultures participated in the session.
“We started the above event with breathing exercises know as Pranayama followed by physical exercises called asanas,” said Sudarshan.
“Yog (the traditional name for yoga) and Pranayama is very beneficial for body, mind, soul and emotions.
“It was very good and everybody enjoyed the whole programme and asked us about our Yog classes as they want to join us.”
The group also practiced laughter yoga for 20 minutes, which is believed to have the same benefits as spontaneous laughter, and afterwards a hot vegetarian meal was laid on for everyone who took part.
