Hundreds celebrate Israel’s 70th Birthday in Redbridge

Hundreds of Redbridge residents came together to mark the 70th anniversary of the creation of the state of Israel, known in Hebrew as Yom Ha’atzamaut.

At the East London and Essex Liberal Synagogue, in Marlborough Road, South Woodford, a congregation spanning seven different generations gathered for a family service on Saturday, April 20.

Rabbi Richard Jacobi, student Rabbi Daneila Touati and Liberal Judaism Senior Rabbi Harry Jacobi led the service, which was followed by a buffet of hummus, falafel, pitta bread and chopped salad.

On Thursday, April 18, more than 300 people, including Ilford South MP Mike Gapes, Woodford Green MP Iain Duncan Smith and Redbridge Mayor Linda Huggett, gathered at Jewish Care’s Redbridge Community Centre, in Woodford Bridge Road, Redbridge.

Pupils from the Clore Tikva Primary School and Wohl Ilford Jewish Primary School entertained guests with Israeli dancing and choir performances and live music was performed by The Yossi Yoffe Band.
