Performing primary pupils presented a cheque for £329 to a retirement home last week.

Highlands Primary School, Highlands Gardens, raised money and performed for Wiltshire Court - a sheltered retirement home in Ilford.

The pupils took the initiative to raise money for the residents after visiting the home in December last year to sing Christmas carols.

The children handed over the cheque in front of a crowd of residents and guests, including the former Redbridge mayor, Joyce Ryan.

The event was rounded off by a performance from the choir which was well received by their loyal listeners.

Mr Brodie said: “We all really appreciate it. We are grateful for the councillors, the ex mayor and of course the school. It is lovely to bring together a combination of the young and the old.”
