Interface is calling for presents for Santa to give to children when he visits Mildmay Community Options centre in Albert Road, Ilford.

Asia Fazal, from the charity, said: “We know times are very hard for families but when you go shopping please spend a couple of extra pounds to get a child a present.”

There are about 1,800 disabled children in Redbridge and the charity expects more than 100 of them to visit Santa when he visits the centre on December 23.

Mrs Fazal said many disabled children are not able to visit other Santas as they can get impatient waiting for long periods and have difficulty understanding what is going on.

She added: “My son’s autistic and we cannot get him into a busy shopping centre. There are lots of complexities there.

“Adults with special educational needs are also welcome to come as they might not get to see Santa otherwise and many of them have young mental ages.”

Suitable presents include puzzles, books, toys, stationery and teddy bears.

“All we would ask is that the items are new,” Mrs Fazal said.

Donations of gifts can be dropped off at Mildmay Community Options from 9am-4.30pm.
