Orient chairman hails in-form striker

Orient chairman Barry Hearn is hoping Kevin Lisbie can keep firing the goals for the League One leaders this season.

The 34-year-old took his tally for the campaign to five with the 63rd-minute winner in their historic 2-1 success at his former club Colchester.

And Hearn believes the Hackney-born striker’s relative lack of games to this point are the key, saying: “We said before, when you look at Lisbie’s record he hasn’t played the number of games you’d expect a man of his age to have played.

“He’s an old head with young legs I think. He’s one of those improving four-year-olds if he was a race horse.

“He brings so much to the side, he’s so clever, so bright, so innovative and pops up and scores goals again. He’s probably played more games than he would’ve dreamed of.”

Jamaican international Lisbie netted 16 times in 34 appearances for Russell Slade’s men last season, as they finished agonisingly short of a play-off place.

And Hearn is hoping his potent start to the 2013/14 campaign can spearhead another promotion push.

He added: “Normally we only have him down for 20-odd games a season in our head, but the way he’s playing you’d have to scrape the pitch to get rid of him.

“He loves it out there. He’s an inspiration.”
