Homes in Chadwell Heath have been left without water on what is predicted to be the hottest day of the year due to a mechanical fault with a water pump.

There are 180 homes affected in the area around Grove Road, which includes Birch Court, Bengeo Gardens, Westfield Gardens Sherman Gardens and Madeleine Close.

Chamonix Estates Limited, manages Grove Road One estate and are responsible for services.

A spokesman said: “We were advised of the water outage at the development this morning and have been continually working throughout the day to identify and resolve the problem.

“An electrician and engineer are currently on site working on an unforeseen mechanical fault with the water pump which serves 180 apartments.”

April Mehmet, 39, of Madeleine Close, woke up this morning to find her taps were not working. She predicted that up to 600 flats could be without access to water.

She said: “It’s stressful. It’s the hottest day of the year we cannot do anything without water.

“My daughter had to go to school this morning without brushing her teeth, lots of people in this block have babies and young children.”

Temperatures in Chadwell Heath are predicted to reach a sweltering 30C today.

Miss Mehmet said: “I’m on crutches and cannot go down the road to buy water- it’s very frustrating.”

Chamonix Estates said: “Our employees have been distributing bottled water to vulnerable residents who have been made known to us.

“Further water supplies are en route to the development and members of our staff will stay at the development until the issue is resolved. We assure our customers that our nominated contractors, on-site and office staff are working as quickly as possible to restore the water supply.”
